NOVÁ PŘÁDELNA BEGINS WITH FIRST SHIFT.
On 22 May 2027, Nová přádelna will open its doors to the public for the first time as a new space for contemporary art.
The First Shift brings together several exhibitions, installations, and artistic interventions. It marks the opening chapter of a new space in Semily, dedicated to presenting distinctive voices in Czech and international contemporary art and to creating projects that call for space, courage, and freedom.

Why Semily?
Because contemporary art doesn’t have to be created only where you expect it.
Nová přádelna is taking shape in Semily, within the monumental industrial setting of the former FABRIKA 1861 textile factory.
A place that for more than a century was defined by industry and work is now gaining a new layer to its story. This time, an artistic one.
Across 5,225 m², a new space is being created for contemporary Czech and international art, large-scale exhibition projects, and encounters between artists, curators, collectors and the public.
We don’t want to turn a former factory into a white gallery cube.
We want to make use of exactly what is already there.
Character. History. Scale.
And add one more thing.
Courage.
FIRST SHIFT IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
We want to gradually build a distinctive place for contemporary art in Semily, with its own programme, its own point of view and its own character.
A place worth travelling to for art.
From Prague. From Liberec. From Berlin. From Warsaw.
And equally, a place that belongs to Semily.
We will invite Czech and international artists. Create exhibitions specifically for this space. Connect contemporary art with industrial architecture, the history of the site and the landscape in which Nová přádelna stands.
We don’t want to do everything.
We want to create things worth travelling for.
